Lets talk admin applications. This will be a in-depth guide to a successful admin application.
I will talk a bit about myself so you know that the information you are getting is somewhat helpful and is correct.
I myself over the last 4 years have ran over 5 successful Minecraft community's hired over 100 staff, from Moderators to HR managers. All trained by me.
As an IT Consultant I manage a large client network providing support and project management to schools and mid to large businesses around Australia. I know what a good admin looks like, as well as what a good employee looks like.
That's enough about me, lets talk about you.
Why do you want to be an admin for mw3 ?: This is the most important question you are going to have to ask your self, do you want to be an admin to help ? or just to make yourself look and feel good ? By nature we feed on power if we can get something over someone else we will do anything it takes to achieve said result.
It feels good to have "Admin LamboRenon" pop up in front of 100 players you feel a sense of power, and trust me that feels great. There are two types of people in this world.. Winners and losers (I'm sure you've heard this before) now you've got to ask your self what one are you ? 2% of the world is successful the other 98% stopped trying.
Every staff member i have hired they have fallen into that 2%. Now how do you fall into that 2% ? I now present to you the
3 Rules of Success
1. Effort: Every admin application i have approved have written more then 200 words. This is the first thing I look for is EFFORT: the effort you put into you're application will reflect the effort you put into your job.
2. Determination: Everything in life that you want you have to want it because if you kinda want this then your wasting your own time.
3. Willing to Learn: I strongly believe in the will to learn what you don't know. At the end of the day life is just a big game of learning! Most staff members I've hired don't have much experience this allows me to train them with out old habits, getting in the way of that process. Have a open mind and be ready to make mistakes because if you have a closed mind you wont learn from your mistakes.
Lets look at the application format and see where we can improve.
Tell us a bit about yourself? - This is an important question try to fill this one in with as much information as you can we want to learn about you, the person behind the screen, what type of activity's do you do ?, do you help out in the community ?, do you put effort into others or yourself ? telling us about yourself will give us a judgement on what type of person you are, this allows us to tell if you will be a good fit in with the other staff members so your able to work beside them as a team.
Why would you like to become an admin? - I see the question answered the same all the time it sounds something like this "I want to help get rid of hackers and help the community" But why do you want to get rid of hackers ? Why do you want to help the community ? How are you going to do this ? what is your drive to become an admin.. why do you want this! ? The more information you give us the more you will impress us!
How would you benefit the community? - This is a hard question, how am i going to benefit a community ? am i going to get rid of hackers ? Or am i going to do something much more ? Being an admin isn't about getting rid of hackers its about making the community move as one. You need to think about how am i going to make this community grow, how am i going to give it life ?
Do you feel that you been helpful towards the community? If yes, how? - Answer this question from your heart, are you helping on forums ? are you giving advice in game ? are you helping the community "Grow" are you being apart of the community ? If so how ?
Any experience at administrating? - Experience is impotent especially if HR doesn't have time to train, the more you know about administrating the less we've got to watch you, What servers have you been an admin on ? what was you're roll ? did you enjoy it ? How would you deal with a hacker ? How would you deal with a rager in game ? What if the a admin was banning everyone what would you do ? The more you tell us on how you can deal with problems the better you will look!
At the end of the day its up to you if you want to be successful, you are in control, not us.
